This is a free audiobook download of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” read by Ruth Golding, published by Librivox and turned into an audiobook by Castlibrary.com.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve short stories. The stories were originally published as single stories in Strand Magazine and then published in a single volume.
In this version of the book, we have compiled the short stories into a 4 volume set of audiobooks, each with three of the short stories.
Ruth Golding does a very nice job telling the stories and here is her perspective on Holmes:
There is not always a crime committed nor a culprit to find, and when there is, Holmes does not invariably get his man. However, his extraordinary powers of deduction generally solve the mystery, often to the discomfiture of the official police force. Holmes is a man of many facets, and I do not share the common perception of Holmes as cold and humourless: his sense of fun can be sparkling, and there are moments of rare pathos. This a .zip formated file and can be downloaded with a PC or Mac by clicking on the file and extracting it to a directory. From there you can import it into iTunes or onto your mp3 player directly.

I downloaded the ZIP archive but when I try to unzip it (Mac OS-X 10.4) I get an error: Unable to unarchive “adventures_holmes_64kb_mp3.zip” into “Desktop”. (Error 1 – Operation not permitted.)
I’ll try to get the four parts separately now. I just want to let you know that there might be a problem with the zip file.

This 269 MB file downloads OK. Windows 7 unzip program indicates that it is corrupt. I downloaded the large file twice with identical results. The W7 unzip program has always worked flawlessly.
I’m downloanding the zip file now and will test locally.
I will send email with update once corrected.
