This is number 5 in a great series by Craig Johnson. Makes me want to head to Montana or Wyoming in hopes of running into him at the local restaurant. Walt Longmire is again on the case and I enjoyed all the twists and turns. Can't wait for the next one.
Martha from Tenstrike, MN said on Goodreads:
this is the first of this series that I have read, and I will read more. This is the story of a woman accused of murdering her husband after he kills her beloved horses. Sheriff Walt Longmire ends up with her in his jail, and makes it his business to find out what really happened.
Lynette from The United States said on Goodreads:
I saw Nancy Pearl interview Craig Johnson on "Book Lust"so decided to give him a try. He is a good writer of mysteries and he gives depth to his characters. Do I like Walt Longmire because he has a dog called Dog? Maybe. The end isn't predictible which I like.
Leslie from Franklin, TN said on Goodreads:
Probably a 3.5, more than a 3. Liked the sheriff/protag. and the setting, Wyoming, Powder River area--been there; it's a good place to set a mystery. good tension. there seems to be a lot of backstory that I didn't know. I'll probably look for his earlier ones.

The Denver Post hails 's Walt Longmire mystery series as a must-read. Joining the four previous novels - all of which have been Book Sense picks - The Dark Horse puts a unique Wyoming twist on the classic British village mystery.
Sheriff Longmire investigates when his instincts tell him something isn't right about a prisoner accused of killing her husband. Wade Barsad, a man with a dubious past, locked his wife's horses in their barn and burned the animals alive. In return, Mary shot Wade in the head six times - or so the story goes. Walt doesn't believe Mary's confession, and he's determined to dig deeper. Posing as an insurance claims investigator, Walt soon discovers other people who might have wanted Wade dead, including a beautiful Guatemalan bartender and a rancher with a taste for liquor, but not for honesty.
The Dark Horse is sure to build on the success of Another Man's Moccasins as Sheriff Longmire unpins his star and ventures into a town without pity to save a woman without hope.
